    Becon Multi Unit Office Warehouse

    Becon Multi Unit Office Warehouse was set to become the newest addition to the massive industrial precinct in Dandenong South. And the team behind the project were focused on it being a sustainable and compliant one.

    So they called on SDC for a number of sustainability assessments – including a Section J, STORM and an SDS – to ensure the development was compliant with the council’s requirements, and to help them get their building permit.

    What we found was that some aspects of the initial design were falling short of compliance. So we consulted with the design team, and helped them refine the plans to implement some new sustainability initiatives.

    In the end, the team at Becon got the compliance – and the permit – they were after. And the development now serves as a shining example of good sustainable practices in an industrial setting.

    Kathmandu have a vision to not only significantly minimise their own environmental footprint, but to create awareness and encourage others in the retail industry to do the same. Teaming Qanstruct and Dexus to deliver them a distribution centre that met all sustainable design and performance standards was an adventure we were keen to embark on.

    As the Green Star Accredited professional across the project, SDC’s holistic approach included Part J Energy modelling, daylight and glare modelling, Life Cycle assessment and the preparation of a building users guide. Comprising of 25,000m2 of warehousing and 650m2 of office space, the project achieves onsite energy generation through 100kW solar array on the roof. And also thanks to full Led lighting throughout, its energy consumption is predicted to be around 50% of a standard building of the same size and nature.

    Achieving both the 5 Star Green Star Industrial Design v1 and Green Star Industrial As Built v1 Ratings are certifications that the whole team is extremely proud of. Thanks to our attention to detail throughout the design and construction process, along with collaborating with a diligent and hardworking builder, we were able to gain As Built certification in Round 1- an almost unheard of achievement.

  • Toshiba

    SDC TOSHIBA

    Toshiba – Quarry at Greystanes

    When developing their newest headquarters in NSW, Toshiba called upon a team of experts to ensure they delivered on their commitment to reduce their company’s environmental impact.

    Part of a much larger development, the Toshiba building at Quarry at Greystanes consists of a 10,000m2 warehouse along with 2,000m2 of technical and office area. And, through extensive modelling and consultation, we were able to reduce its energy by a predicted half of that of a standard building of comparable size and use.

    An extremely high tech building with a well considered facade, this unique reuse of a quarry is a perfect example of how of an old site can be turned into something not only useful but also exceedingly efficient and sustainable.

    SDC’s consistently thorough and collaborative approach, from design though to construction, made the process of achieving the 5 Star Green Star Rating for Design a breeze. With our sights set on As Built v1 Rating - expected to be awarded later this year - we look forward to adding to the proud list of achievements we have for this innovative project.
