Ben’s always had a keen interest in the natural environment – even as a child, he loved nature studies and learning about ecological wonders. At the same time, he was surrounded by relatives working in the construction industry, and naturally developed an interest in that too.
University gave him the chance to blend those interests. And he took it – enrolling in, and eventually graduating from, a Bachelor of Social Science (Socio-Environmental Assessment & Policy) and a Masters in Urban Planning.
What drives Ben most, he says, is “the concept of environmental stewardship – which recognises that we all share the same planet, and have a responsibility to look after it, for each other and for future generations too.”
Lindsay says, “to ‘engineer’ literally means to ‘make things happen’”. And that’s exactly the reason why he chose to pursue a career in the field.
He’s a do-er. And he believes that sustainability has the capacity to make a difference for future generations. That’s why he joined SDC as a consultant in 2007 – and why he continues to champion environmental sustainability today.
Working his way up the ladder to co-director, Lindsay says the best part about working at SDC is “not only the diversity of work, but also the family-friendly culture”.
Daniel has always had a passion for both the natural and built environments. When he saw a need for specialist consultants in sustainable design, he knew he could help make a difference based on a single belief: “the belief that we are stewards of the planet, that we need to consider future generations and ensure that the resources we have aren’t wasted”.
After completing a Bachelor of Architecture, Daniel worked at a range of architectural practices prior to running his own for 15 years. Although a founding director of SDC, changes in 2014 have given Daniel the opportunity to take up a role within the company and follow his passion for working with design and construction teams to deliver high quality and sustainable outcomes.
Jane started her working career in nursing – a job that called on her keen eye for detail, and genuine concern for people’s wellbeing.
18 years after starting out as a nurse, Jane wanted a change. So she set her sights on another field where she felt she could make a difference – environmental sustainability.
She joined SDC in 2006 and has since completed her accreditation as a Thermal Performance Assessor for FirstRate 4, FirstRate 5 and AccuRate. While energy efficiency is her passion, what she enjoys most is seeing her colleagues’ faces light up whenever she brings a batch of fresh, homemade scones in to work.
A born problem solver, Adam has always had a keen interest in maths and physics - so a career in Engineering was a perfect way for him to merge all his interests.
Adam says he enjoys "the challenge of developing better, smarter and more efficient ways of doing things; as well as learning about creative ways other people have taken to tackle similar problems."
After completing a Bachelor of Arts and then a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) Adam came to join us at SDC. The supportive, friendly environment he feels enables him to work collaboratively in a team-orientated culture and contribute positively to society and the environment.
